On time, holy crap!

I’m on time! Well, I have an excuse (yes, I need an excuse to do things right). I brought my ibook over to Jenn’s so I can update from here.

Apple is at about 99,900,000, so they should certainly reach the 100,000,000 by tomorrow evening. I am impressed at how fast they are accumulating downloads.

It’s really warm out. The good news is it should rain in about 3 hours, thus dropping the temp and humidity. Michigan pisses me off. 63, 65, 55, 90, 85, 65. What the hell? Pick a season and stick with it.

I have folding@home running again. The graphical, regular program. Working fine, and I am glad.

I need a job. Yeah, I do the landscaping thing, but I need a REAL job. I rewrote my resume, and need to start submitting it. I need money, and I need something to do all day, and Jobs are good at solving both of those.

Ok, good night all. I will try to be on time Wednesday too, start a habit of it. And I PROMISE new poll by next post.

Whooopsie

Sorry all. Two days late is kinda bad, huh? I didn’t post Thursday before I left to Jenn’s, thinking I would when I got home. Problem was I didn’t come home til about 1 on Saturday morning. So I put it off till now, about 12 Saturday afternoon. I will make sure it doesn’t happen again.

When I installed F@H, I also installed a little utility to make it auto launch. Little did I know what a pain in the ass it would be. I decided to switch from the command line version of folding to the GUI app, and deleted the command line program. For the last 2 days now I have been unable to use my terminal, because it attempted to launch a non existent program, then when unable to find it exit the shell. Fine, I’ll put the program back. Nope, still exits the shell as soon as I end F@H. After a 16 post thread on MacRumors forums, I found the culprit. It wasn’t some Unix file like we thought (I checked every shell rc, profile, and login file I could think of) but the preferences file for Terminal. And stranger still, the setting can’t be reached from in Terminal, I had to open the com.apple.Terminal.plist file manually. Weird shit. Glad is all OK now though.

The 1 year anniversary of the counter has now passed. July 6th, 2003 I put it up, with 0 views. July 6th, 2004 it ended the day at 1306, which is really 150 too low, so 1456. By the way, you will notice that both counters (should) have the same value now. The Bravenet counter will go away soon, followed by the replacement of the poll and the addition of a search feature. No, really, I will.

Jenn and I are going to sidewalk sales today, and perhaps the car show. I need to go get ready for that, so I will see you all, tomorrow. Being late screws stuff up.

I’m sure glad global warming never happened.
Oh, it did, nuclear winter just cancelled it out.

Hello Out There

There was no quote last time, you notice that? I couldn’t think of one, sorry. I have been running dry on quotes lately. Just wanted to get that out of the way.

Fireworks Saturday were cool. Jenn and I were right behind DoubleTree Hotel, between their building and the river. Was a really good spot I felt. Jenn seemed to enjoy them too.

I realized earlier today that my brother’s birthday is the 9th, which is like 3 days away. Wow, that’s close.

Apple is giving away free ipods. Every 100,000th song purchased, from the 95,100,000th to the 99,900,000th, will bring a free 20GB ipod to the purchaser. Then, on the 100,000,000th song, the purchaser will receive the grand prize of a 40GB ipod, a 17″ PowerBook, and a gift certificate for 10,000 free songs to fill their new ipod. Also, the grand prize winner will get a chance to create their own celebrity play list for the music store. Apple’s website has more info, as well as the rules for no-purchase entry. They are at about 96,865,000 right now.

I ran XBench on Jenn’s new ibook. Wow. With a dual 800MHz G4 as a baseline 100, Jason’s 733 G4 Quicksilver received a 64.68 overall, my 800 G3 ibook got a 42.90, and our 400 G3 imac a 30.24. So what does Jenn’s 933 G4 ibook get? An 85.17! Thats wicked considering it was only $1049. She scored over 100 in several categories too, especially under memory since she has DDR memory where the baseline system had SDR. And by the way, A dual 2.0 G5 Powermac averages a 200 overall, with up to 2000 in HD performance thanks to it’s Serial ATA drives.

What else…..

I am using Folding@home now. Some of you may remember that I used to run SETI@home. I pretty much stopped running SETI when I switched to the ibook, and have now decided that folding is probably a better choice. Yeah, looking for Aliens is fun, but this is more likely to be useful.

I’m getting to the point I wish I didn’t know about Tiger. I hate knowing I have to wait till mid 2005 to buy it. By the way, for those unaware, OS X has cats for all the version names. 10.0 is cheetah, 10.1 is puma, 10.2 is jaguar, 10.3 is panther, 10.4 is tiger. Future versions of the OS are expected to include lynx, cougar, and leopard.

Well, thats quite a post for me, so I am going to bed.

Happy 4th of July (Almost)

Well, it’s the 2nd of July right now, but wont see again till 5th so Happy Independence Day all.

Jenn and I went to watch fireworks last night, ended up on 3rd and Madison, across from the police station. Tonight we sat on her roof. Think tomorrow we are going to go for something closer.

Worked last 2 days. Tried doing a BK in Chesaning today, lol. Was alot more to be done than we were made aware of. We did not finish.

I am really tired right now. I need to get my schedule figured out better.

Apple apparent misjudged the time it would take to sell off remaining iMacs and bring new ones to market, and are now in a pickle. You can’t buy iMacs from the Apple Store online until September now, according to the store. Apple always cuts production a few months before a new model, and the new model was longer in development that expected. Ahhh…. Apple. No iMacs til September, thats funny. Fun thing is they make it sound like a major revision. Perhaps they will be nice G5 iMacs with 8x SuperDrives and USB 2.0, FireWire 800, Bluetooth, Airport Extreme, and PCI Express upgradable graphics cards. Ooooooh <drool>.

Ok, I can’t stay up much longer, so night all, and see you Monday night.

Number 143

Ok, really late, sorry. Anyway though…

Big news for Jenn. Friday she got her acceptance letter to the nursing program at SVSU. Her computer really died though. There is a problem with the power supply in it, so it wont charge at all any more. So saturday we went to the Apple Store and she got a new ibook. It was a remaining one from the previous model so got a good deal too. She is very happy with it though.

Today we went to St. Stans picnic. I have now accepted that I got old. I realized how much it costs to buy stuff. We didn’t feel like spending $4 on an elephant ear, so we came home
and made them ourselves, then made pizza too.

So WWDC is tomorrow. There is no G5 leak like last year, but there are some pics floating around that are supposedly of Tiger, more rumors about new displays, and some pics from inside the convention center that take shots at MS’s Longhorn.

OK, I think that’s it. Will see you all on Tuesday, unless something big happens at WWDC, then will update Monday evening.

nick

People often ask “why does 7-11 have locks on the door if they are open 24 hours?”
Well, they need some way to keep people out during the police investigation of the bi-weekly robbery.

WWDC is coming

So, with the WWDC just 2 weeks away, I suppose I should make some predictions. Well, of course there will be info on Tiger, Mac OS X 10.4 to be release I presume around late October as Panther was. I have no idea what may be included as updates though.

As far as new items, I see AirTunes being incorporated into the Airport Extreme base stations, wireless Firewire (400MB/s wireless for peripherals mainly, no need for more than about 20 foot range, if that), the 60GB iPod, faster iMacs with 8x SuperDrives, redesigned displays with a possibility of an interactive display (an LCD with tablet functionality, so you can draw on it), and/or a 30″ LCD, and hopefully news on when we might see G5s in the iMacs and PowerBooks, and when we can expect 3GHz PowerMacs. These are just guesses of course, things I know are coming but am not sure when. Whether they will be actually releases, “coming soon”s, or not at all are yet to be seen. Displays and iMacs are overdue for updates, and iPods are nearing that point too. The rest of the product line is in good shape. That doesn’t really mean much though, since Powerbooks were updated in Nov. 02 and again in Jan. 03, so who knows. Of note, Apple recently spun off the ipod into a separate division, so a redesign isn’t likely, I expect just a capacity bump and little more.

I could of course be wrong on any and all of that. It should also be kept in consideration that it is a developer convention, and updates to sub-pro products are less likely. PowerBook, PowerMac, Displays, XServes, and the Pro Apps like Soundtrack, Final Cut, and DVD Studio Pro are the most likely candidates, rather than iMacs or iPods.

Ok, what else…

More time with Jenn. We went with my mom and Robert to the Casino on Saturday night, and to the art fair Sunday during the tornado. We didn’t know there was a tornado, just ugly clouds. I actually saw some twirling clouds that judging by the time were the remnants of the tornado though.

I have been cleaning my room little by little. I have put the two clothes racks in the attic finally, so I have a lot more floor. I need to figure out some kind of TV stand, since I hate having my TV 5 ft in the air on the stereo cabinet. I really want a built in desk/entertainment center setup, but haven’t the money to try building one yet. Maybe later in the summer.

Ok, I think that is it.
See you all back here Thursday.

No matter how bad you think your job is, remember the poopsmith.

A Day Off, Yeay!

Finally, I have a day off. I worked 5 straight, that’s good for me. I will get a very nice paycheck I’m sure, but I am glad I get to sleep in finally.

I was notified via postcard today I made Dean’s List for Winter 04 at Delta. Is impressive I guess, though I only had 6 credits.

So what have I been doing…

Well, what I haven’t been doing is getting the pics of the dogs scanned, or renting LOTR:ROTK yet. Soon, very soon.

Wednesday after blog I went to Jenn’s, as did I every other day. We figure with the exception of the day Sarah found out her dog had cancer, I have been at her house every day since May 13th, and actually longer. Heck, even that day that I didn’t, I was probably there past midnight the day before, so were good there too. Yesterday we went to the mall and I got a new watch battery, but mostly we just hang out.

Worked Thursday thru today as well. We finished Hughs’ again yesterday, and began Kirshen’s today. I am sure somehow we will end up as Hugh’s again before the end of the summer.

After work and Jenn’s, not much else has been done.

Speaking of Sarah’s dog, it was put down at about 2pm today. Lucy had a tumor on her shoulder. She was in a lot of pain, and removing it wasn’t really an option as it would probably spread if it wasn’t already. Besides, even amputating the bad arm couldn’t be done since she had hip displacement and it would worsen it by adding more weight to each leg.

Friday was the last day of school for the little people. Congrats to any new graduates. Oh how things have changed in 3 years. Wow.

I need to get in some bike riding, but can’t seem to find the time. I get home from work and shower, then either go with Jenn and eat, or eat then go with Jenn. Seems the only way I am going to get to ride is if Jenn does, I don’t work, or I give up Jenn time. I think A is the best choice, maybe the only.

Ok. I am sure I forgot something, but oh well. New poll soon, and FREAKING COMMENT DANG IT. This no voting/no commenting is pissing me off.

I will try harder for the more pics, and at updating too soon rather than too late.

Tuesday,
nick

Why did the monkey fall out of the tree?

It died.

Humm Dee Dum

Lets see…

Sunday I mowed the lawn, and then went over to Jenn’s for a while. We went to the flea market and she got an end table, then we went to a few rummage sales. Then her roommate Sarah’s brother and his gf came over for dinner. Sarah makes a very good meatloaf, I must say.

Monday I got a haircut. Jenn had a bad day at work, and took Sarah and Sarah’s dog to the vet. Her dog Lucy has a tumor in her shoulder. Hopefully not the nasty C word. So I stayed home while Jenn tried to comfort Sarah some.

Today I went with mom to Redi-Med for an ear infection. I took Jenn to Catholic Federal to open an account, since TCF sucks, then to Grandpa Tony’s with Jenn and Sarah. After dinner Jenn and I went to State Park to play on the “Come Play by the Bay” thing. Not very good slides, but was still plenty to goof off on.

That brings me to now then.

I was playing with the website a bit yesterday, so it may have been down, sorry about that.

A few new pics may make their way up soon, we will see.

Ok, I am tired, and may or may not work tomorrow, so am heading to bed.

When it seems like nothing is going your way, and everything seems to be just wrong, just remember one thing:
It was like that when you got there.

Whoopsie

OK, I admit it. I am late on this post. It is 2:24am on Sunday, and I was supposed to post on Saturday. Oh well. By old standards, this would be fine, so I deem it still so.

So lets see…

Only 1 vote on poll so far. That’s a bit disappointing. You people need to get it together.

My past few days activities…

Thursday and Friday we did not work, since it was supposed to rain., It did some, so that was a nice break. Saturday we did work though, so I will have an at least decent paycheck.

Thursday I went on a 16.2 mile bike ride, as a follow up to the 10 I did Wednesday night. A note for you all: Don’t do 10 miles, then 15 a mere 14 hours later. After you pass 5 miles, it’s not so bad, but until you get that far there is some pain.

I have been spending the past several evenings wit Jenn. We went to the Driving range on earlier in the week, went to Carrol and Maplewood park on Thursday, and Maplewood again on Friday. Roller slides are awesome, I forgot that. Especially when they’re wet, its much better. Today we went to Dutch Village for putt putt, Texan for dinner, and then to the end of Finn Rd. to watch the sunset.

That would be about it. I highly suggest you all go find a roller slide, or go play at a park you haven’t been to in several years. It is a lot of fun. Wet slides and swings with puddles below are too much fun to leave behind.

See you all Tuesday,

nick

Pedestrians always have the right of way,
Except when their in the way.

It's May Damn It, What the Hell?

It was way to freaking hot out today. Not just hot, but freaking humid too. We only worked till 2ish, then gave up. I probably could have gone longer, but Mom and Phil couldn’t. Not that I mind going home early.

How you know you’re in the south end: Neighbors wait till 10:30 to mow lawn.

So, what have I been up to…

Monday we didn’t work, and I basically sat around all day. No, it didn’t rain, but it was supposed to. Tuesday we were at Hughes’ on Center, just East of Green. Were at same place today, and will be tomorrow (unless rain). You should drive by, it is looking really nice now, all new mulch.

Also, I went to the driving range again with Jenn yesterday. No, not the one with the car. I did pretty well. We then drove around for a bit. We went to the end of Jones Rd. to show her the bay, but we couldn’t see it. The water level is so low that there is nothing but reeds for about a mile out.

So, tomorrow I probably will work. They are calling for rain, but have been horribly wrong for the past, well, forever.

A few notes:
Yes Scott, I know his name is Bruce Campbell.
Very awesome on DVD, will need to borrow it. (if you have no idea what I’m talking about, read last 2 comments)

Ok, I think thats it. See you Saturday.

Oh, new poll up too.
