Crisis Averted

Well, the Blog will not be going away. It means I can’t cancel my Capitol One card like I had hoped, but ohh well. Another year of not working on the webpage, late blogs, and too much spam is now payed for.

I worked yesterday for a few hours. Not as much as I would like, but it was pretty hot and we didn’t have anything else we could do on the job, so oh well.

River of Time begins setting up tonight, and will be open next 2 days. You all better go, or I will kill you.

Is The End Near?

I am wondering if the blog may come to an end. My .Mac subscription is up for renewal by October 1st, and I don’t know if I can afford it. This covers the blog, website, my .mac email, and my online back-up disk. I guess we won’t really know until October 2nd, huh?

I went with Jenn on Monday to go see her sister and new niece in Ann Arbor. Some screwy traffic on the way down. We got lost in the hospital a bit on our way out, then her windshield got cracked by a stone around Flint. We tried to go to the Flint Chi-chi’s, but they were closed (turns out the entire chain closed nation wide, we would decide to eat there the day they decided to permanently go belly-up), so went next door to Bennigan’s for lunch, it wasn’t as good as normal. Jenn was getting sick and was feeling pretty crumby by the end of the trip.

Since then, Jenn has become sicker, but is now becoming better.

I think that’s about it. See you friday, and remember the River of Time.

You've Tried the Best, Now Try the Rest!

Hi all.

Question for you. You store glasses upside down because you don’t want stuff to get in them, or so they can drain, right? Why not dishes? Plates have a much greater surface area than cups, yet they are stored right side up. Would plates not have a greater chance of becoming dirty? You may argue that plates and bowls are nested, so only 1 would become dirty. But, that top one that would be dirty is most likely to be used. Also, some cups are nestable, yet are still stored upside down. Just something to think about.

I was looking at cell phones again. I decided I am still waiting. I don’t have any money, nor do i have a real use for a cell phone.

My grandma is driving me crazy. She has good intentions, but is getting into shit she has no clue about. I don’t expect everyone to know everything, I just want them to know enough to realize that they don’t know.

River of Time is next Saturday and Sunday. Jenn and I are going, all you are welcome to join.

Went to Todd’s bonfire with Jenn. Todd was entertaining as always. We learned that Carhartt coats burn very bright and very hot.

Jenn went with her mom and sister to Ann Arbor Friday. Her sister had to go down for an appointment with her pregnancy, and Jenn was to watch Johnny, her nephew. Turns out the baby was breached, and they scheduled a C-section for Saturday morning. So, Jenn was stuck in Ann Arbor very bored all day. Chris was bored here, so we went and saved her. My brother kept thinking he was in Grand Rapids for some reason.

Broadway has full pavement and curbs, just sidewalks, lights, and landscaping to go. The work in front of my house is done for now, but they need to return to replace the sidewalks and grass.

I worked Saturday for the first time in about 6 weeks. Needless to say I am a bit sore. Will be back at it again on Monday. It sucks, but I need a paycheck.

I think that’s it. Will be back Tuesday.

I think the title is funny enough.

Back from Vacation

Well, I am back from my little vacation. We had a good time, more on that later though.

Today is August 28th, and that means just 11 Days to my Birthday. I am not sure what to expect, but as goes my motto, “If you aim low, you won’t be disappointed”.

I think I had a record set a week ago. On August 17th I had 30 visits. It is now down slightly to 20 a day as the more recent max. Both Google and yahoo are still pointing to me for searches on those bad words. Right now, Sitemeter is estimating 520 – 570 visits in next month? That should drop as soon as Google and Yahoo drop my pages from a certain search.

The ODRAM (One Day Ride Across Michigan) will be on 9/11. You may recall that for a week this winter I was temporarily insane and thought I could do it. I may go out to state park around 4 ish to watch some of the people come in, but am NOT going to ride.

In the Alice Cooper softball game, I have been informed by Tim that I work with (who also works at Wheelz, and was in the game) that the radio stations won 10-6.

My 2000th visitor was Jenn. Like my IP address, hers too was changed, thus confusing me on the winner’s identity.

So the trip…
We left on Tuesday about 4:30 after some final packing and running around. We made a pit stop in West branch for some Arby’s and again in Gaylord at Glenn’s and for gas. We arrived in mackinaw about 8ish, got our campsite, and started setting up.

After setting up the tent and getting our bedding made up, we went to a General store that we had passed for a bag of ice and firewood, then returned to build our campfire. We made some smores, talked for a while, walked down to the lake, and went to bed about 12ish. We fell asleep pretty easy after the long drive, fresh air, and the noise of the waves coming on the beach about 300 ft away.

Wednesday morning at about 4, we were awakened by the patter of rain outside, but nothing hard. By 4;30 it was a thunderstorm and we could feel the water coming in through the tent’s seams. We managed to eventually fall back asleep though, despite having a wet bed.

When we got up in the morning we were definitely wet. After a warm shower we put all the wet blankets and pillows in the truck and headed for Mackinaw. We drove around the city some, looked at the bridge, fort giftshop, and lighthouse, and bought a disposable camera. We then headed for Cheboygan in search of a laundromat. We had lunch at Big Boy (Slim Jims are not good btw) and then went to Wal-Mart. There, we found a queen size air mattress for the low price of $17, and couldnt resist. We then went to a laundromat to dry everything and headed back to camp.

After getting back, we set up our new mattress, laid the bedding back out, and decided on a bike ride. For future reference, if the sign says “No Bikes”, you should listen, It’s not that the DNR doesn’t want bikes on the trail, but that bikes are simply incapable of making it. Of the 1.5 mile trail, about half was marsh land with 3 2x4s laid on some old branches making up the trail. The rest was fun though. You pedal as fast and hard as you can to climb the hills, only to either enter sand or hit a root stopping you just 5 feet from the top. The downhills were mostly good, except where you are going 15 mph and come to a sharp bend with the alternative being a steep drop into trees and brush. Needless to say, you stopped ASAP and walked around the bend. After some fun though, we made it to a bike-friendly 2 track trail that lead us back to the main road.

Along the way back to camp, we found a section of beach and decided to go for a swim. I don’t think I made it to my knees before I turned around and ran back screaming like a girl. That water is COLD. So, we resorted to building a sand castle just out of reach of the evil waves. Afterward though, we were of course covered in sand, and there was only 1 way to come clean. I made it out to my waste this time, hoping I would get used to it. Nope. By the time we were at camp, we had gone 4 miles, with an easy equivalent to a 10 mile on road trip.

Back at camp, we decided to drive to the other general store. We picked up some cheese dip, mustard, and Jiffy Pop. We then made our fire, and cooked hot dogs on the end of a stick. We had baked beans too, but no can opener. Me, my cub-scout pocket knife, and the can of beans had a 20 minute conversation, and eventually came to an understanding. Jenn said the beans tasted a bit like metal, but I just tasted the victory.

After dinner, we pretty much just sat around the fire, ducking into the tent now and then to avoid a few showers. We were in bed by 12 again, after quite a Day. We again had rain that night, but with an air mattress it was much better. In the morning we packed everything up, and set off toward home, kinda.

First, we headed the wrong way up the road, to see where it went. It leads eventually to the end of the peninsula the state park is on, with the rustic cabins off on side roads. We then went in to Mackinaw and got some Pasties. You just have to. I got back on I-75 at exit 339, the last one before the bridge. We stopped off again at Cheboygan, to see Sea Shell City. A lot of nautical stuff in there, including some stuff that was pretty cool. I did not see the “Man Eating Giant Clam” though, and left disappointed. We stopped in West Branch to stretch and jenn did a little shopping, then headed back home.

We totaled about 488 miles, for a total of around $50 in gas, including $20 to but the tank back where it was when we left. It was 180 miles from here to there on Tuesday, I presume about the same back, and then 100 or so on Wednesday running to Cheboygan and back. In all I spent about $100, for gas and the $52 for the camp site and vehicle permit. Was it worth it? Hell yes. We had a great time. Yeah, it would have been nice to get some star gazing in, or the water to be warmer, or to not have the rain, but it’s all part of the adventure. Plus, we had almost no bugs (except a special lady bug that Jenn found in a precarious position) and our neighbors were quiet and seemed nice. My only regret is that we didn’t cross the bridge to go see the St. Ignace Mystery Spot. It’s Ok though, since that bridge scares the begesus out of me.

Since returning, I have mostly just unpacked some stuff and tried to catch up on some sleep I lost to the rain. When Jenn gets the Pictures developed I will scan and post them on the blog. There aren’t many, but what the hell.

Well, that’s more than enough for now. See you all on Tuesday.

bye,
nick

is it just me, or am I the only one?

2000th!

Well, that came up faster than I thought. Then again, I didn’t realize I was averaging 25 visits a day. Seems a pair of words I had used earlier were drawing alot of traffic, and even setting me at the #2 google result for the words. So, it has been changed so they are now u^^pa lu^^pa, where the ^^ were once Ms. Anyway though, I have had over 2000th visitors now, and thats a big deal, especially since 1000 was only on April 7th. Thats 1000 visits in four and a half months, while the first 1000 took almost a year. Had I not changed those certain words, I may have hit 3000 within just 2 months.

So anyway, congratulations go out to our winner, whoever it is. I dont recognize the IP address, but suspect that it is Scott.

I have not yet gone to try and get “Ecto Cooler”. I haven’t really done much at all in the going away area. Oh well, that will change…

Since this is Jenn’s “Vacation” week from school, and she had Wednesday and Thursday of from work, I though it could be fun to go do something fun. After looking online I decided on going to Wilderness State Park for the 2 days and camping, fishing, mountain biking, and whatever else. Of course, then I thought to look at the weather for up there and realized its going to be raining both days. Nice, real nice. So right now I am unsure of what were doing, but there might not be a Wednesday update, just so you all know.

Work on Broadway is proceeding, as the road is now graded, and the sand and stonemix laid. Even the expansion joints and mesh are going down. Concreting should be some time this week it seems, followed by asphalt surfacing and then they will be done. They are making ALOT of noise today though, grinding or hammer drilling or something.

I have been searching mad online lately. Remember my online obsessions I discussed? Well I’m in a history phase now. Looking up info on Bay City and Local Highways.

Jenn and I did not go to the Midland Fair. Well, we did, but we didn’t go in. It was decided that $10 each plus $4 parking was too much. We did shop the Midland Mall for a bit though, and went to a little driving range on Wheeler Rd. in Auburn.

No real site work, or baseball, or room, or anything else. I’ll be honest, I am either sleeping, with jenn, or being really lazy about all day. Sorry.

I haven’t watch the Screen Savers in a few months now. When G4 merged with the network and they ditched Leo and all this gaming crap started getting thrown in, I just got turned off. Also, I haven’t watched wrestling in a long time either.

I was in staples yesterday and realized something. I am sad. I love buying back-to-school supplies, but I’m not going back to school. I am actually kinda jealous. If anyone needs to go school shopping, please let me know.

OK, I am done. I was kinda waiting for Scott to respond with his IP address so I could be sure, but I guess it will need to stand as a hypothisis.

bye all.

UPDATE!

Ok, it wasn’t Scott. It wasn’t any of you. It was me. Oops! It would seem I am the 2000th visitor, as Charter changed my IP address without me realizing it from 66.188.1.# to 66.188.61.#. So, I will be changing the counter to ignore me henceforth. Therefore, the honor shall go to the 1998th visitor, whoever that person is. I will let you know by next update, or just keep for myself if I can’t figure it out.

A Year Later, and Sick Again.

Strange stuff, I tell you. If you look at last years posts for August 28th and 31st, you will notice I was sick. Well, almost a year later, and I am sick again. I have to think its an allergy to something that blooms in mid to late August.

Jenn and I got to watch Alice Cooper play softball Saturday. He and his road crew have a team and they play games as they travel. I can’t say who won, because we left early, but Alice’s team was doing awesome against the combined efforts of Z93 and Wheelz.

Also Saturday I bought my new TV stand. It works for what I need. My problem now is my bastard stereo’s tuner wont work. I get no radio stations, AM or FM. I have played with the antennas and every connection for 2 days to no avail. Heck, I even opened the case to check for a fried component and came out with nothing.

It’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Since I am sick and don’t want to work, I hope it does. But…, since I am poor and need money, I hope it doesn’t.

Ok, I am tired, and sick, and just overall yucky, so I am going to bed. After I finish the smoothy Jenn brought me, of course.

night,
nick

Hi, I’m looking for Ray Finkel…
(guys pulls a shotgun)
And a new pair of underwear.

The Post Formerly Known as Untitled

So I am finally cleaning my room. I am kinda in the middle of it right now. It is at that point where it’s dirtier than when you started, but that means I am about half way.

I bought new sheets for my bed. Jenn and I went to the Essexville Meijer’s and none were quite what I wanted or in the wrong size, so we went to the Wilder Rd. one and I found some cool ones. One problem though, I found that there is a big rip in the top sheet, so am going to try and return them today. Damn it. I bought new pillows too. I wanted to make sure they were fluffy enough so I threw them on the floor and laid down in the middle of the aisle. Jenn laughed.

I went with Jenn to Alpena on Thursday night. We stayed the night at her parents house, then went to the Alpena County Fair and came home about 3 ish. I did some star gazing while we were up there and it was weird. There are almost too many stars, so it becomes hard for me to find some stuff. I should bring my laptop with an astronomy program and my telescope up there next time.

We ate at Grandpa Tony’s tonight, and I ordered the butterscotch sundae. I don’t remember it being so big. It was still awesome though. Three massive scoops of ice cream covered in butterscotch, mmmm. I only ate two of them though.

I can’t think of much else.

I guess I will see you all on Tuesday then.

Bye,

nick

Good news! It’s a suppository!

Number 155

Hey, Wednesday will be my 100th General post, woohoo. But wait, my 100th General would be considered special, and hence categorized as such, and thus not a General post. But then, it wouldn’t be special again, and go back to general, making it the 100th, and again Special. Oh, what a paradigm we have. I guess it will have to be left as General.

I have not cleaned my room, or really even began to try. I have been looking for a TV stand, since I am annoyed with the one I have now. It’s too tall. I am amazed at how hard it is to find a stand that does what I expect. I have given up the idea of building an entire built-in desk/entertainment enter, but may build a small TV stand, if I get to it. I would need tools for that though, and I don’t have those.

No word from Charter. Suchyta says I’m a shoe in. I should call them about my app on Monday.

Jenn and I went to the Munger Potato Festival on Friday night. We had fun. Demo Derby was interesting as always, we both got a 5 lb bad of spuds, and spent 45 minutes to get about a half mile from the parking lot to the street.

OK, I’m going to bed because although it might rain tomorrow, it also might not, in which case I would need to work.

night all

Expect the Expected

Hi all, hope you enjoyed your weekend.

Air show was cool. We were there for about an hour. We got there at 2:30, but a bit before 4 we got tired of it. Saw some planes doing tricks and such, a jet powered Dodge Ram, etc… Left before the F-16, but saw it from my house.

Jenn and I were in her room talking today and I was sitting on her bed. We heard a noise, but it sounded like it was outside or downstairs. We heard it again, and were wondering what it was by that point. Suddenly her bed dropped 5 inches from under me. One of the feet on the bed frame bent and the corner just dropped. It looked like it had been bending bit by bit for a while, and since it was on casters it just gave out and rolled far enough for the weight of me and the bed to crush it right up. We ran to Wal-Mart, but no bed frames so got one at Art Van. Upon disassembling the old frame we found another corner was beginning to bend, and a third corners caster was completely crushed. She said it was like 10 years old, so I guess it lived its life. We are going to paint her headboard before we reattach it. Is a funny pink, we are thinking purple.

I ate at Super Buffet tonight. Is Chinese/Japanese/American all-you-can-eat in Saginaw. They have a sushi bar, but is kinda scared me, didn’t look like much turnover, and old sushi is not good. Over all, I would give a 5. Good selection, but is in saginaw, and could just go to Chen’s. Plus, nasty stomach afterward.

I think thats about all the good stuff. I want to try for the farmers market tomorrow, I’ve felt like some black cherries.

Ok, night, see you, uhm, Thursday.

nick

When you need to keep away rabbit, you use wolf or fox urine, to scare them away.
I propose, we begin distributing elephant urine, to scare away, well, pretty much anything.
