untitled ranting, because I cant think of one

Hello all, and welcome to another update. This is my first post EVER to be made from KungLog rather than Bloggers HTML form. We will see how it works, and go from there.

I never worked on the website this weekend, and my Uncle Steve, Aunt Donna, and cousins DJ and Pat will be here this weekend, and the two boys will be staying for 2 weeks. We’ll see how much time I have to work, who knows.

I just spent the day drilling holes for Cat5 ethernet cable through the house. Funny, because in the next day or two I should be going to BestBuy to buy a wireless router. No matter, wireless will be convenient on my ibook, but is only 12 MB/s, compared to the 100MB/s I get from ethernet. Though, if I want speed, I can turn on IP over FireWire, for 400MB/s (those are all MegaBits per second by the way, divide by 8 for MegaBytes). Oh well, run the cables tomorrow, along with telephone and CATV up to my room. Its like I’m finally moving in, after a mere 3 months. Still have alot to unpack though.

What else… Oh, sorry about that little “blurb” last time, I don’t know what happened to me. To prevent it from happening again though, I will be adding a “For Sale” section to the webpage (yeah right, like I’ll ever get to it). But seriously, BUY MY STUFF!

Wow, good way into my post already and haven’t yet used any of the special features in KungLog. I feel bad about it. Supposed to make it easier to do bold, italic, change sizes, insert images, etc… but I don’t actually do any of that. A link now and then, but I am at a month and a half on posts with only 2 links so far, and one didn’t work so only I know where it is. Tell you what though, if you can find that first broken link, I will give you a prize. I will give you a 2 day, all exclusive (that means nothing is included, part of joke, nevermind, you missed it) trip to beautiful Omer, Michigan. Thats right, I will allow you to drive your own ass up to Omer, do whatever you want, then drive home. You can stare at the river, stare at the bar, whatever, its all up to you. No, nevermind, not in a giving mood anymore. Oh well.

Wait, where am I, damn it, I went rambling again, need to stop that.
Ok, I seem to be tired or something. Besides, drilling those holes in the walls, I’m covered in drywall and plaster dust, so I need a shower. Next update is friday, see you then.

Happy Independence Day!!!!!

Ahh, another post. It’s 12:07 right now so that means it’s the 4th now, so lets begin with a happy Independence Day to you all.

Molly is back from the vet. We took her in Monday, but due to several “veterinary emergencies” they were unable to due the surgery until tuesday morning, and she came home Wednesday. She goes back next week to have her stitches removed, but is nearly back to herself now.

I finally have the new site up. All the coding of it is done, but there is a severe lack of content still at this point. I will slowly work at it, knowing me very slowly. You can go check out the main design though, bitch about whatever is there so I know what to work on.

I hate this part, I need to write more, but can’t come up with anything useful. I could keep babbling like this, but you don’t want that. I could go on like this for a long time, but need something useful, something at least partially important.

The case of the new G5s is starting to grow on me. The lack of drive upgrades is still a pitfall though. Maybe with hard disks being of such insanely high capacities will alleviate this some, but there is still the no second optical drive/no removable media drive thing. Ohh well, perhaps in 2004.

I still want wireless. My laptop is sitting on an end table in the front room, and either I just sit in front of it, or disconnect all the cables but the ethernet and sit with it in a chair. What would be nice though, is if I could disconnect that last cable. I want too much stuff for this ibook right now: Wireless card, more memory, 10.3 Panther (when it comes out), AppleCare, and I still haven’t even paid it off yet. Like I said a few weeks ago, I gladly accept donations…

Ren & Stimpy is back, 2 episodes every thursday. The first, at 10pm is the “new” version, written and animated by the original crew. The second, at 11:30 is the “classic” version, digitally re-mastered of course (everything is now). These are the classic ones, “Space Madness”, “Happy Happy, Joy Joy”, “Log”, etc… You know what, they are not what I remembered. I could swear the annimation was better, these things look like old “Loony Toons” episodes, but they’re what, 6 years old?

Ok, thats enough for now, it says its 12:40 now so I been typing on and off for like 33 minutes, thats enough to me.

See you later,
nick

The G5

Well, I was late. I have a good reason though, several in fact, and here they are:

Yes, its coming. The leaked specs were all true too. Up to dual 2.0Ghz 64 bit PowerPC 970 processors, up to 8 GB of DDR RAM on an 8GB/s bus, 3 PCI-X slots, an AGP 8x Pro slot, Serial ATA, Firewire 400 and 800, USB 2.0, an external Wi-Fi antenna port, optical and analog audio in and out, and more. All this for $2999, or just $1999 for the single 1.6Ghz. Plus, the preview of Panther, Mac OS X 10.3. This too will be an exciting release, as it sports 100 new features. Panther will be available by year end, and the G5 by august. AND, a new version of ichat, and a new $149 firewire webcam.

I was rather tired last night after all of that, and then I was in Caseville today delaying the update further. But here it is, so there you go.

What else, uhm, the website. I haven’t worked on it in a few weeks now, so figure I minds as well just post what I have, including some new pics. Should be up soon, hopefully before next post, you’ll read why. So there is that.

Also, I am now counting down to my massive 1 month super-fantastic-over-hyphinated-gala-o-rama-celebration. And, this is the 10th update, making it an extravaganza itself. The 1 month anniversary will be on the 27th, 3 days for now. So, I am not going to correct the schedule, but instead leave it to its now altered state so that there will be a post on the big day. Was it a coincidence that this happened, or was it planned? You may never know, unless you read the next sentence. It was a coincidence, I actually just realized it.

And finally, I need to complain about something. Hmm, I wonder what (sarcasm, so hard in writing). The G5. You should see it. IT IS THE UGLIEST COMPUTER APPLE HAS EVER MADE. Seriously though, the sides are not all that bad, and the back isnt so bad either, but the front, eghh. Its just so, well, plainishly ugly. I dont know, I just think the case needs some more work. Also, it only has room for 1 optical and 2 HD bays. The Quicksilver had 4 HDs, and optical, and a zip and the Mirriored Drive Doors had 4 HDs and 2 opticals. The Industrial Design Group needs to get their stuff together and go back to work.

Ok, thats it then, go away until the big party.

The Four Announcements

Ok, a few announcements this time:

First
I finally have this timing thing down. Rather than that every 2nd day thing that never works, I am going with an every 3rd day schedule. I chose this because it is less frequent and thus easier, and because thats the schedule I seem to have been following without knowing it.

Second
I actually put real links on the sidebar now. The link to my home-page should work, let me know if not. The .mac web-page I have is rather lame, I am working on a new one.

Third
That Vervante bookstore thing has been resolved. They sent me an email reporting that Apple has stopped the publication of the books, and noted that any ADC member can print out the entire book from Apple’s ADC site. Fat chance, they’re like 300+ page books and I don’t feel like using a ream of paper plus 3 ink tanks. The good news is Apple now “recommends” the O’reilly series of books, and they now even carry the ADC seal in the corner. I plan to purchase a few of them soon.

And Forth
And MOST Important MY BROTHER GRADUATED
Woohoo, you go girl, err, boy. I really am proud of him though. It has been a tough few months and we really did wonder if he would make it sometimes, but he did it.

Ok, I am tired and need to work tomorrow, so I’ll see you all later.

I’m late! Or not?

Ahh, I’m late!

Actually, I dont know if I am, I post like 12:01am and dont know if it should be the current day of previous or what. I dont think it matters really. It was my rule to do every other day so I can break it. Besides, I already pointed out that whole “other” v. “oter” thing.

Anyway, another game review for you. Hitman 2, it sucks. The controls are horrible, its quite difficult to figure out just what your doing, and I just didnt like it. Mostly the control difficulties though.

Next, what happened to the Vervante store? You go to their website and click the apple store, all the developer books are gone, and it lists the books as not found. Pissing me off. Worst part is you cant get the books elsewhere, just through their site. I am sure Apple will be as happy about this as I am.

Speaking of whom, I am reading a biography if you will of just that company. I have owned the book for some time but just today (or yesterday technically) decided to read it. I have several books that I bought and didn’t read, and I hope to get through some over the summer. But anyway, the book is ok, not great or anything though. The first chapter is by no means chronological. It drifts from the early 70’s to the mid 90’s and back again with little care, despite (I can’t believe that’s the correct spelling, almost sure it was dispite) being called “in the beginning”. Maybe its just an introduction thing, I hope so, and will keep you updated.

Ok, thats all for now. I just wanted to sound off quick. Ohh, also, if you didn’t see Gollum’s acceptance speech at the MTV Movie Awards, find the next showing and watch it, in the words of the froddo dude, uhm, anyway, he said “that’s f*cking awesome”. Well, not his words, watch it, you’ll understand.

Go away now!

Bad Apple, BAD

Ok, I am bored and not ready to sleep yet so here is your update.

I am ROYALY ticked at Apple right now (when am I not right? I hate them almost as much as I love them). They released isync 1.1 today which added syncing support for several more cellphones, which is really cool. However, they DIDN’T provide support for phones people actually own. isync is still dominated by GSM phones, which are the vast minority in the US. And the CDMA and TDMA phones they are supporting are the $249 optional phones that nobody buys. Yo Apple, get a clue and support the Motorola v120, you know the one that Verizon and Alltel give away for free and that most people have (and is also the one I am getting, why else would I care?).

Second, they dropped the price of 12″ and 15″ powerbooks AND started a promotion where you can get a $200 rebate when you buy any mac with an ipod. That means rather than spending $1549 on my ibook, I could have waited and got a 12″ AlBook with a faster processor and G4, more RAM, a bigger HD, and Airport Extreme plus a 10 gig ipod for $1649. I could have waited 6 months for a deal like that. But I digress. Part of buying a computer is accepting that it wont be the latest and greatest forever, or even for much more that a few weeks. That my ibook wasn’t leapfrogged until mid-last month is actually amazing. Besides, I need to focus my hatred at RAM chip makers for charging so much. How can a 512mb so-dimm cost $99 when a 512DDR is only $75 anyway!?!

What else? I don’t know. I didn’t say I wasn’t tired, just not tired enough to sleep. Ok, I am going to bed know, 3 hours earlier than normal, because I am tired and I am supposed to work tomorrow.

Later,
nick

First Real Post

Ok, so my first real post. Should I post something meaningful, intelegent, or that even makes sense? Hell no, you should know better than that!

But anyway, my mom is back from Cancun, she didn’t enjoy it much. Either she just got a bad room or Cancun isn’t all its made out to be.

Also, I am LOVING my new HP. The OCR actually works and it is making it much easier to just scan in old reports and the like rather than re-typing them all. It does have some flaws, but still much simpler.

I hope to post at least every oter day from here on. If not for you all (whoever you are) to know whats going on in my life, then for so I can look back at previous posts later.

Till then,
Nick
